2024 Scottish Curling Awards

At the RCCC annual awards Club Secretary Glynis Knowles was voted 'Grass Roots Coach of the Year'.
This was in recognition of her work with diverse groups like schools, beginners, corporate teams, and individuals with disabilities.

Those who voted obviously agreed with the nomination which said that 'Her infectious enthusiasm fosters a vibrant atmosphere, ensuring a fun and fulfilling experience for all.' and 'Her dedication, adaptability, and positive impact on her students make her a standout coach.'

Croquet Taster

In May the club organised a taster session in Aberdeen for members to learn the rules and try their hands at croquet.

There was a very good attendance and we all found it a skilful and tactical game, a bit like something else we are familiar with?

The coaches from Aberdeen Croquet Club were great, friendly and informative. They had us all playing (very) competitive games in no time.

Everyone had an enjoyable afternoon and agreed that it would be a good idea to arrange another session sometime when those who couldn't make it this time could come along.

Annual Summer Barbecue

The annual summer BBQ was held in June in Glynis Knowles' garden. The weather wasn't kind this year with a fair amount of rain but a gazebo on the lawn let the cooking go ahead outside while the eating and drinking carried on indoors.

Thanks to everyone who came along and brought food and drink. There was plenty of variety and certainly no one left hungry. Lets hope for better luck with the weather next year.

We used an old photo to prove that the sun does shine on us sometimes!

Olympic Success for Ethan

In February Ethan Brewster went to the Junior Olympics in Gangwon as part of the British Mixed Pairs team along with Callie Soutar.

We all know what a great curler Ethan is, so it should have been no surprise that he and Callie came back with a gold medal, having beaten Denmark 7-6 in the final.

We at LCCC will join everyone else in congratulating Ethan when he is back on home ice.
